How to fix the profSvc service failed error

To fix the "ProfSvc service failed the sign-in" error, boot your PC into Safe Mode by holding the Shift key while clicking Restart from the sign-in screen.
Navigate to Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Startup settings > Restart, press 4 or F4 for Safe Mode, and fix the corrupted registry profile.

If your user profile registry key is corrupted or renamed with a .bak extension, you can repair it through the Registry Editor.
  • Press Win + R, type regedit, and press Enter.
  • Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList.
  • Look for the folders starting with S-1-5 (security identifiers or SIDs).
  • If you see two folders with the same SID name—one ending in .bak and one without—rename the normal one to .old and remove .bak from the other folder.
  • If a folder ends in .bak, right-click it, select Rename, and delete .bak from the end so it matches the correct active state, then restart.
